Contractions

Contraction is a high level vocabulary word we will add to our classroom cognition content dictionary this week.  Students will learn how to define, read and write contractions in text.  It's exciting to see how our readers and writers are ready to go deeper into understanding our language and using good communication skills.

We've finished our deeper study of the Lord's Prayer.  Now we'll study the adventures of Peter and Paul after the resurrection.  This week our focus is on Peter's preaching and imprisonment.

In reading the next few weeks will focus on reading and writing contractions correctly.  New sight words are: water, been, find.  Students will write about the U.S. flag in social studies.  We will study a new book about neighborhood communities and write sentences that demonstrate comprehension and good structure.

It's full steam ahead in learning subtraction skills in math this week!  Students will practice using objects, drawing pictures and writing subtraction sentences correctly.

In science we'll study an article about frogs and list their needs and preferences.  Students will begin exploring the question of how people, animals and plants can change their environments.

We will continue learning about special flags and symbols for our country in social studies.

In technology lab, students will move deeper into reading by playing word games and reading interactive books on Starfall.

Art class on Friday's is always a highlight.  This week students will learn what monochromatic means and create art pieces using just one hue.

I'm looking forward to a great week of learning and fun!

Mrs. Luoma
