Ready to spring forward!

I'm not talking about a time change...I'm talking about one of our favorite times of the year.  This is the time our class really starts to roll ahead with confidence toward first grade.  We work well all day, we can do more and learn quickly.  Everyone is reading and writing, it's an exciting time!

After a refreshing spring break, we're ready for a full week of learning and fun.

Our Bible focus will be on the events just after Easter and the experiences Jesus' disciples had as they processed the resurrection.

In reading we'll learn to read and write using the digraph 'ch'.  New sight words are: are, would, could.  In literacy we'll study a new text on growing a garden.  This will fit in nicely with our science unit on living things.

We begin a big chapter in math on addition skills.  Students will learn how to add using manipulatives and pictures.  This week the focus is on understanding the components of a good addition sentence and the many ways you can add numbers to make sums up to 5.

Our new science kit should be in this week so we can really dive in to understanding living things.  Our first focus will be on plants.  We'll learn the anatomy of a seed and start our own pumpkin plants next week.

In social studies we will review the products made in Washington state. We'll learn about how jobs make a good or provide a service.  Students will compare how some services are privately owned and some are public services.

We have clearance to begin using our computer lab and I hope to have the class on computers at the end of the week.  We'll start off learning about the parts of a computer and how to use a mouse.

In art our class will make spring compositions of a rainy day using shapes.

On Monday, there's sure to be some big 'mouse' news as students notice some new friends sharing the tank with Sara!

It will be a good week back at school together again!
