Starting the Third Trimester

These are exciting times.  This week we begin the first week in the third trimester.  Our class is beginning to look a lot more like first graders.  We have energy to work well throughout the day, we're starting to read and write on our own and work more independently.

We'll begin our week in a new seating arrangement.  This trimester we'll be using a clip chart to document student behavior.  Students and parents will be able to track behavior each week on our weekly calendars.  Encourage your child to check the events and assignments and take responsibility for preparing for their week.

In reading we'll cover long 'u' words this week.  Sight words are: get, there, said. We'll start writing conversations, using quotation marks in our sentences.  Students will answer comprehension questions from our study of an expository text on music.

Students will learn new vocabulary in math in our chapter on time.  This week we'll cover the days of the week, months of the year, and begin to learn the basics of telling time on an analog and digital clock.

In science students will design their own systems that demonstrate forces and motion.  We will record our finding and write about a complex system.

We are studying the past and present in social studies.  This week we'll look at the ways toys have changed over the years.  Students will design their own toy for the future.

Everyone is hoping for more spring weather.  We do love to play together out in the sunshine!

Praying you have a sunny week,

Mrs. Luoma
