You may have heard...we've been getting curious little notes written in tiny words signed 'library mouse' or 'Sam'. After reading the book, "Library Mouse', we seem to have evidence of having one of our own!! What will happen?! Will we convince Sam and his sister to let us see them? Will they stay with us and become our class pets? It's a wonderful mystery that is motivating students to write notes and read them. What a great way to discover the importance of reading and writing. Stay tuned for more updates and exciting news about Sam and his sister.
We are diving deeper into reading by learning about consonant blends and digraphs this month. This week we'll focus on the digraph 'th'. This one is used extensively in our language and should help us a lot with reading sight words, too. The English language has so many rules and exceptions, it's complicated. And yet, our class is doing a fine job of learning each one as they come and applying them to our reading and writing. Our new sight words are: saw, were, does. We will write a questions and answers based on an expository text. Students will study a new narrative about growing plants and spring. We'll be sharing opinions about events in the book.
This week in Bible we will finish the story of the woman who poured perfume on the feet of Jesus. Then we'll touch on several events that happened to Jesus just prior to His walk to the cross. It's a great time to make plans to attend a special Easter service with your family.
Our class will be learning about 2D and 3D figures in math. We'll compare attributes, identify and build a lot with shapes. Students will use small shapes to build larger ones.
We'll compare and contrast writing tools from the present and past in social studies.
Our new science unit will be on 'Living Things'. This week we'll discuss what makes something alive and what living things need.
This week's art project will support our math lessons by challenging us to get creative making 3D sculptures from paper. Students will use complementary colors as they twist and turn paper to give it form.
At the end of each day we're busy reading, practicing skills, and filming for our chapel coming up next week.
I hope your week is full of happy surprises like ours will be,
Mrs. Luoma
