We are broadening our scope of reading with adding long vowel words now. Students are learning to use rules and letter patterns to decode words with long vowels.. It's an exciting to see each child wade deeper into the joy of reading.
This week we will add long 'i' words to our practice work. Our new sight words are: was, want, of. We are comparing and contrasting two texts about kids that live in multicultural families. Students will respond to comprehension questions with writing complete sentences. With March on the way, we'll be making and writing about kites this week.
In Bible this week, we will begin the story of the Good Samaritan and learn more about how Jesus wants us to treat our neighbors.
We start a new chapter in math on using numbers 20-30. Student will count using ten frames, understanding the tens and ones place value in each number.
We begin a new unit in social studies on comparing the past with the present. Students will make a timeline of their daily activities.
In science we'll review our domino experiment and the factors that affect forces. We will make tops that demonstrate the spin motion, recording our findings in our science notebook.
Our special art project for the week continues with a focus on the artist Picasso. Students will make self portraits in the Picasso style.
At the end of the day, I'll be assessing each student individually to begin report cards for the second trimester. Each student's progress is tracked in multiple ways; through observation, games, daily work, quizzes and tests, and individually through oral questions and demonstrations.
Our most successful students have parents that keep them learning daily from home by reading together, practicing sight words and the Bible verse. Thank you for teaming with us to help your child learn!
