National Lutheran Schools Week!

Oh boy, it's going to be a fun week!  This is National Lutheran School's Week, a week where all the Lutheran schools across the nation celebrate excellence in a faith based education.  Lutheran schools nurture their students, helping them grow academically and spiritually.  At our school, part of the week is showing school spirit by dressing to a new theme each day.  This year's theme is 'Sent to Serve'. Coupled with the daily fun, each class will be doing service projects where we learn to appreciate the servants in our lives and how to serve others.  Friday is our annual Indoor Olympics event where each class enjoys fun competitions while dressed in their team colors.

We'll be moving ahead with regular classroom instruction as we have fun.  Students will begin to learn about Jesus ministry years and how he chose twelve disciples.  We will compare and contrast how we can be present day disciples.

In reading we'll study how the letter 'y' can act as a vowel in words. No new sight words this week, but remember to review the ones we've covered! We will review the short vowel sounds and move into long vowel words next week.  In literacy, students will learn to compare and contrast characters in a story.

Our class is beginning a new unit in math on measurement.  This comes at an opportune time as we'll be measuring lengths in science soon.

As we learn more about forces and motion, students will consider how gravity and friction play a part on motion in our world.

In social studies we are finishing up our unit on celebrations.  We will complete our January calendars and note how many famous people are honored in art and on money.

Get ready for a great week of learning and fun!
