Hello February!

We'll begin our new week starting a new month.  As the calendar turns we see we have Valentine's Day, Day 100 and President's Day ahead.  So many things to celebrate: love, learning and leadership!  Those will be big themes in Kindergarten this month.

Our class will finish the story of Jesus calling his disciples and focus on the Bible story of Zacchaeus. This gives us the opportunity to see how Jesus values all people.

In reading we will begin our trek with long vowel words, learning the rules for long vowels and practicing reading words with long 'a'.  Our new sight words are: but, who, that. We will write about sequence, forces and study texts we can compare and contrast.

Our chapter on measurement in math will cover estimating, capacity, area and temperature.  It's been fun to show the class various tools used for different types of measurement. We have been using blocks to measure in science and will practice measuring lengths on Friday.

In social studies we start a new unit on the Past and Present.  Students will compare and contrast how things change over time.  This week we'll make a timeline on our Tuesday activities, putting multiple events in sequence.  On Wednesday we will hear from a special speaker teaching about economics from STU via a zoom call.  We appreciate our community helpers who reach out to teach at our school.

Students will see how an initial force can put a series of forces into action within a system.  We will be using balls and dominos!

In art we will work together to make a beautiful piece for the S3 auction coming up in March.  You'll want to bid on the Kindergarten project this year!

Students will begin getting ready for Valentine's Day by making creations of love for our classroom, Bethlehem Buddies and 8th grade friends.

Love, learning, leadership....it will be a fine week!
