Our classroom is filling with Christmas decorations and projects, we listen to Christmas carols daily and count down the days of Advent. It's a happy time of year and even behind masks it's clear every student is excited about Christmas coming soon.
This is our last week of school before Christmas break. We will be busy and happy learning each day.
As we study the Bible this week, we will tell the story of Jesus' birth and seek to understand new details from the Bible about this event. Students will discuss our December Bible verse and what it means to be a humble servant.
In reading and writing we will practice identifying beginning, middle and ending sounds in words. Our focus will be on the short 'e' vowel sound. Students will compare narrative texts and write their own narrative using a story map to help organize their sentences. Our sight words this week are: do, or, for.
In math we'll finish up chapter five on graphing. Students will review vocabulary and concepts, take a test and practice graphing sight words they know.
We'll finish up our unit on Maps in social studies. In science we'll review materials that sink and float. Students will design boats big enough to transport gingerbread men across a river. We practice the concept of design, testing and redesigning for optimal success.
Special Christmas projects will be finished up for a variety of friends, and we will enjoy watching the BLS Christmas program on Thursday.
Friday will be a fun day with online chapel and a Christmas party. Then we're off on Christmas break!!
Can you feel the excitement in the air?
Mrs. Luoma
