What Do You Do with a Short Week?

 Answer: we keep learning!  This will seem like a very short week to our students as we'll just see them on Monday and Tuesday.  The rest of the week, your teachers will be going to school, taking professional development classes from our Northwest District of Lutheran Educators.  You might not realize it, but all teachers take classes to help them become better teachers every year.  We may be getting an advanced degree, training on a science kit, training with a local district on a curriculum we have in common or learning from other Lutheran educators in our district.  Wednesday through Friday all the teachers at BLS will be taking online classes to better our teaching techniques.

For our students we will finish learning what happened to Adam and Eve after they made a bad choice.  We will not have a quiz on our October Bible verse, but it's a great time to start practicing it at home!

In ELA we will cover the letters Cc and Ee, learning their names and sounds, and how to write them.  We will hand out a new reader: I Have!  Remember to keep those reading logs up to date.  Students will practice writing using the sight words we covered last week.  At story time we are covering more aspects of the parts of a book, using a special song.

Students will practice careful counting to 4 and 5 in math, with lots of practice in writing those numbers correctly.

In social studies we will interview our building custodian, Ron Anfinson.  Students will learn more about the different types of jobs people have at BLS/BLC.

We are taking daily temperature readings in the sun and shade to understand if the sun really does warm the earth in science.  Students will learn more about what a meteorologist does on the job and the types of tools they use to measure the weather.  We'll focus on wind speed and students will make a fun wind catcher to use at home to check for wind speed.

There's a possibility of a Bear Party soon!  Our class earns bear tokens when they all do a great job of following directions at school.  We only have one more bear to earn...rumor has it, we get to eat popcorn and watch a short movie at the end of the day once we earn it.
