We have a full week of learning ahead, cooler Fall weather and the new energy that comes from having a few days off. So let's go!
It's always exciting to see our class making significant progress in remembering routines, managing materials and following directions. It means we can pick up the pace of our learning AND have more time for fun.
This week we will study the life of Joseph and his brothers from the Bible. It's a time to discuss jealousy, injustice and forgiveness. Our verse this month also highlights the unique plans God has for each of us to do good, just as He did for Joseph.
In reading and writing we will study the letter Ff and have a phonics quiz over letters Cc, Ee, and Ff. Then we begin the next set of letters: Gg and Jj. We will learn the new sight words: to, the, little. At story time we will cover more concepts of print and recall the beginning, middle and end of a story.
Students will finish up chapter 2 in math, reviewing great number writing 0-5 and comparing number groups. On Friday we'll take our first multiple choice test. A big part of school is learning how to follow different directions and focus on showing what we know.
In science we will begin a study on different types of severe weather. We're hoping for a windy day for students to test wind speed and direction with the wind socks they designed last week. Students continue to record temperature data in the sun and shade at recess. We want to prove if the sun really does warm the earth.
Our class is learning about jobs in social studies. This week we will answer the question, "What kind of jobs do the people who work at this school do?", "What is my job now?", and "What kind of job do I want to have when I grow up?"
In art we will explore the technique of pointillism by making pretty pictures of fall leaves.
Thank you for helping your child come to school healthy and prepared each day!
Mrs. Luoma
