What's the Weather Like Today?

Answering that question using words like: temperature, precipitation and wind speed will be what our class is practicing daily.  This week in science we will explore the questions, "Does the sun warm the earth?" and "How do clouds make rain?".

In Social Studies we'll go deeper into understanding the character quality of being a good citizen.  This week we'll learn about many people in history that were good citizens.  Students will also learn more about who works in our building and the jobs they do.

As we begin each morning in prayer and worship we'll finish the Creation story with Adam and Eve.  Then we'll move into the story of their temptation in the garden.  We all can identify with experiencing temptation!

It will be an excited week in ELA as we begin learning sight words!  Good readers are skilled at decoding words phonetically with sounds AND memorizing many sight words.  Sight words either are seen at a high frequency in print or do not follow the rules of phonics.  We begin with an easy group this week: I, a, am, an.  Our focus in phonics and handwriting will be on letters Oo, Aa and Dd.  At story time we'll learn who and what the author and illustrator do in a book.

On Monday we'll begin our second chapter in Math on numbers 0-5.  The focus will be on correct counting, writing numbers clearly and comparing numbers.

We'll have our first trip to the BLS library this Thursday!  Students will be able to check out a book of their choice to take home.  BLS library books are due by the following Thursday every week.

In Art, we'll experiment with oil pastels as we study the artistic style of Kandinsky. Students will make a collaborative class project.  We'll be sure to post our masterpiece on Seesaw!

We're looking forward to a good week!
