Moving into May

As we begin our first full week of May...how's it going?  If you're like me you're getting tired of remote learning and missing being with all our people at school.  This is a time for patience and endurance, trusting God is in control.  We know God loves us and this is a part of His plan and timing.  As I focus on God and not my own frustrations I begin to see the new joy in each day.  I pray you turn to the Lord for all your needs and take time to rest in Him.

It's a short week, but we're moving ahead with purpose.

This week I'll teach about the Lord's Prayer, unpacking the language Kindergarten style.  I hope this will bring more meaning to this special prayer each time our students pray.  We have a new verse to start memorizing.  Check the blog page or your Monday email for the verse.

In reading we will learn the new sight words:  your, all, out.  Read for comprehension, spell and identify 's' blends.  Students will finish their three part writing piece about their Mother...just in time for Mother's Day this coming weekend.  I hope our Mom's know they are special and loved.

We will begin chapter 8 in math where we will work with numbers beyond 20.  This is great practice to review place value, careful counting, and number order.  We will explore the concept of estimating in this chapter.  Have you wondered why it seems like we're doing the math chapters out of order?  I make sure we cover all the Kindergarten math standards, but the order we go in can change based on our school schedule, adding more rigorous materials and the readiness of our class.

In science we will learn about the four stages of the Ladybug life cycle. Students are encouraged to look for Ladybugs in their yards and observe them.  Remember to keep taking good care of your bean or pea plant!  (No worries if it died, you can always use mine for observations.)

Mrs. DeGraaf will show the class how to make a special Mother's Day gift on Thursday.  This will be a keeper, moms!

We hope you have a peaceful, prayerful week.

Mrs. Luoma
