One of our standards in Kindergarten to begin to understand time and how things change over time. I know each student in our class doesn't look like they did on the first day of school. They are taller, more confident and probably missing a tooth or two. Time is a difficult concept and takes deeper thinking. This week we will learn about the four seasons and how the weather and temperature change over time. Changes in climate affect how we dress, what we eat and what activities we do outside. Our students will fill out a graphic organizer where they note details they remember about the seasons of their Kindergarten year. We will write about each season, documenting the past year of learning and growing.
At Bible time we'll finish learning about the language in the Lord's Prayer. Then we'll move on to the Bible story of Saul and his conversion, discussing God's forgiveness and how positive change is always possible.
In reading we will learn a trio of rhyming words as our new sight words: call, fall, small. Read reader #33 and practice reading and writing with good sentence structure. Homophones will be explored at story time.
Math will get more interesting as we count, compare and order numbers to 30. I'll introduce the concept of estimation on Friday.
After updating our observations on plant growth, our class will dive deeper into our study of Ladybugs. This week we'll cover Ladybug anatomy, learning high level vocabulary words through visuals and a song.
Students will study the artist Jackson Pollack on Friday and have fun creating a masterpiece in his style outside.
We're moving through May with purpose. I'm so proud of our class; they will make great first graders!
