So Many Ways to Add

This week our class will finish up their unit on addition in math.  We know how to add horizontally, vertically, how to add fluently with numbers 0-5, how to solve word problems, how to check our work and how to decompose ten into many different groups of two.  Next week we'll transition into subtraction and student will be amazed to see how addition relates to subtraction.

During our Bible study time our focus will be on practicing for our chapel play in March on forgiveness.  We practice many social skills as we learn to work together as a team and cooperate to communicate to others.  Everyone is excited to do their part!

In reading we will learn about the digraph 'ch', looking and listening for that specific sound so we can read and spell more words.  We are analyzing informational books on music and clothing in different cultures.  Students will practice asking good questions and finding the answer in a text.  Soon we will write our own questions and answers in a writing project.

We'll be finishing  a social studies unit on economics.  It's been fun to learn about how money works in our community, what services we have and what products our state produces.

In art we will learn what  monochromatic means and create beautiful monochromatic drawings.

It's nice to have a full week before us.  This is a happy time of year, as our class rolls right along with energy and a growing enthusiasm for learning.  It's near the end of the second trimester, but already we see first graders emerging from our students.  Nothing excites us more!

Blessings on your week,

Mrs. Luoma
