Cooperation

At the start of our week, students will adjust to a new seating arrangement!  Everyone is always very excited to be in a new place with new friends.  Each table team will be working on showing cooperation as they do daily tasks in a small group.  This requires growing in our social skills, acting with patience and kindness to achieve goals.  It's easier said than done, but a challenge that's worthy of our effort.

For the next few weeks our class will focus on preparing to teach the chapel message on March 18th.  This is always a highlight of our year and helps us grow in many areas.  This year's chapel play will be about applying forgiveness in our daily lives.

In reading we will begin learning about digraphs.  This week the focus is on the 'th' sound.  We'll be watching for students to put their knowledge into practice as they read sight words and write words with the 'th' sound.  We will study an expository text and learn to ask good questions, pulling answers from the text.

Students will read and solve addition word problems this week, learning to pull important information from the question, sketch, write an accurate addition sentence, solve and check the answer AND include the unit of measure in the answer.  It's a great combination of reading skills, math skills and sequence recall.

In social studies we will learn about the apple industry in Washington state.  Students will identify the important crops grown locally.

We will paint like Picasso in art this week, using complementary colors in our flower bouquets.

I hope you feel Spring coming in your heart,

Mrs. Luoma
