Make the World a Better Place

We hope you had a nice long weekend with remembering Martin Luther King Jr.  Our class learned about him last Friday and got the chance to think about how to make the world a better place.  We encouraged our students to stand up for the truth and to be brave to take a stand for what is right.

It's a shorter week, but we'll fit in a lot of our usual practice and learning.  We are beginning a new unit in reading where students will learn to compare and contrast stories.  The class will continue learning to recognize and read words with long vowel sounds.  This week our focus is on the vowel 'i'.  Our new sight words are: one, two and five.  This will help prepare us for solving word problems in math in the coming weeks.

At Bible time, we will finish the story of Jesus as a boy and move into His preparation for ministry and the choosing of the 12 disciples.  We will discuss how we can be present day disciples.

Students will finish up the fun chapter on 2D and 3D geometric figures.  We have come to realize we are surrounded by shapes in the classroom and in the natural world.  At the end of the week, we'll begin our big unit on addition and get back to numbers.

In social studies we will learn the difference between a consumer and a producer.  This will lead us to identifying what kinds of things are produced in our area and how many of the things we use are made or grown somewhere else.

Students will mix primary colors to make secondary colors in art.  We are also working on several important projects for National Lutheran Schools Week which is coming up next week.

Blessings on your day,

Mrs. Luoma
