Listening for beginning sounds

We have been working hard to identify beginning sounds in words and the class is getting better and better at it.  It's a smart thing to practice at home or in the car; just say a word and see if your child can tell you the first sound and letter.
The class discussed the Creation story this morning at Bible time as we learned God made Adam and Eve and doesn't want us to be lonely.  This led to a conversation about making new friends and how we all need friends.
In math we learned about the number zero and why it is important.  We practiced counting and writing numbers afterwards.
At story time the class heard a rhyming story about llamas and described the actions the characters took in the text.  Learning to describe situations orally helps us to apply that skill to writing later on in the year.
We took an outdoor tour of all the sports fields on the property.  That's one more thing to add to our map of the school as we orient ourselves to the building and the people in it.
At the end of the day we were hard at work learning through play doing math games.

We are beginning to have more energy in the afternoons, that's exciting to us and we will roll into more and more learning activity as the trimester progresses.

Thank you for all you do at home!

Mrs. Luoma
