Comparing books and movies

We had a 'Read-In' today in grades K-2.  Every class concentrated on literacy skills in some fun, new ways.  After lunch, Mr. Haan read aloud to us in the sanctuary.  Then we watched the movie 'Inside Out'.  Yesterday we read the book.  After the movie the class compared and contrasted the movie with the book.  These are foundational skills for all readers and our class is becoming very comfortable identifying details that are the same or different between two separate texts.  These same skills transfer to science, math, art, music, and social studies!
Another big point of discussion in our class was how could be persuade library mouse and his sister to let us see them???  We have left a cozy 'mouse house' complete with a week's supply of crackers for our little friends. Many hearts are hoping we see signs of their presence when we return.  Who knows...we may have a couple of little class pets soon.

Blessings on your break!
