Assessing one on one

This is a week where I assess each student individually on their academic progress.  We actually assess each child in a number of ways; classroom work, small group work, written tests and orally.  The purpose is to measure learning accurately for every student, especially the ones that can only show their learning in specific ways.
This morning we began our day with prayer and a devotion and then discussed parts in our chapel play.  We described each character and asked for volunteers.  Mrs. DeGraaf and I think and pray about each part and discuss who we feel could handle the responsibility.  Parts are given based on interest, behavior and ability.
In reading we highlighted and wrote long 'u' words.  In math we are working hard at writing math sentences and solving addition problems.  We heard a funny story about a zoo at story time.  The class worked hard on writing in their journals before chapel.  At afternoon chapel we learned more about compassion and the man who the Good Samaritan helped. Pastor Andy reflected how Jesus showed each of us great compassion.  At the end of the day we played to learn during center time by writing addition sentences from dominoes, made our names in Braille with beans, played a flash light sight word game and build houses for our people.

Blessings on your afternoon,

Mrs. Luoma
