Preparing for Kindergarten

I hope you are enjoying the last days of summer and looking forward to the start of your child's kindergarten year. It's an exciting time, full of new experiences and fun.

Mrs. Arnold and I have been busy in the classroom preparing to the new school year already. We want you to help your child prepare for the start of school so the transition is smooth and easy for both you and your child.

Here are some ways to prepare yourself and your child for success:

  • Come to the Back to School Night on 8.15.22! It begins at 5:30. Check your emails from BLS for all the details. This is an important time to receive grade specific information and sign up to visit your teachers. If you can't make it, we understand, just send me an email kiml@blcbls.org and I will get you caught up!
  • Take the time to bring your child into see the classroom and meet us. We want to get to know you better and answer all your question. This visit also helps your child become acquainted with their classroom before school begins.
  • Help your child practice being able to independently manage their backpack, lunch box and open anything they may bring for lunch.
  • Practice changing from school shoes to gym shoes and back independently.
  • Practice good hygiene behaviors in the bathroom.
  • Plan for adjusting your child to a consistent early bedtime (7:00-7:30)
  • Read all the communication from the school and your teachers and follow the directions given.
  • Ask questions right away as they come up.
  • Most of all stay positive and remind your child kindergarten with be a great, new adventure.
This will be a good year and we are so thankful to have each parent on our team,

Mrs. Luoma
