This is our last full week of learning before enjoying the special online events next week. Then we launch into summer break!!!
Before we start celebrating, let's keep our eyes on the finish line and do our best work this week.
In our study of the Bible we will finish learning about the Armor of God and go on to cover the Fruits of the Spirit from Paul's writing to the Galatians.
In reading and writing we'll learn our last set of sight words: their, low, high. Students will practice contractions and good sentence structure. We'll write in response to many subjects. Early in the week we'll get our graduation interviews written. As we learn more about cities, we'll take a virtual trip to Seattle and write about where we'd like to take a friend if we get to visit that city. In science we'll write our last observation on our growing bean or pea. In Social Studies we'll learn and then write about a local Native American tribe.
We have a cool overview of extra challenges in Math as we look ahead to next year. Student will learn a new method to add and subtract, we'll work with numbers to 100, practice place value skills and study equal parts.
Our Science unit on the plant life cycle will be wrapped up with a final observation and a challenge to carry out over the summer.
In Social Studies we'll study the Yakima Tribal Nation in our state, understanding that Native Americans have a unique culture and history.
Our last Art lesson with Mrs. DeGraaf will teach you how to draw a good self portrait of First Grade You. We can't wait to see how grown up each student will look.
As we finish strong, it's amazing to think back to this class as they began the year and to take joy in how far they've come. We are a group of confident readers and writers now, able to learn independently and work together to meet big goals. We are ready for first grade!
So proud and thankful for every student,
Mrs. Luoma
