We hope your new year is off to a great start! In Kindergarten we will be learning the number of our new year and start adding the date to all our practice work. Students will share and write about their goals for the new year.
We begin this week with a new seating arrangement! Congratulations to our last blue table group for winning the team competition for patience. Now we will focus on responsibility with a new small group. Changing our seating arrangements every month or so helps each student learn how to make new friends and work as a team with a new small group. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's challenging, but it's always educational.
At Bible study time we will learn about the Magi searching for Jesus, using a star to find their way.
In reading the class will begin the new year with a unit on long vowel sounds and rules. We will learn to listen for short and long vowel sounds, sort words based on vowels, identify and read long vowel words in a text. This week will be all about long 'a' words. We will begin a study on informational or expository texts, learning how to identify the main points and supporting details.
Our new chapter in math is all about shapes. This week we will identify and draw two dimensional shapes. Students will practice making larger shapes from small ones.
We will check out the results of our recycled paper experiment in science as we wrap up our study on caring for the earth. This will direct our study into understanding living organisms and their needs.
It will be a busy week where we get to start many new things. That's what makes learning exciting and fun...there's always more to know!
Blessings on your week,
Mrs. Luoma
