Living Organisms Are So Interesting

This week our class is wrapping up their study of the plant life cycle and  continuing to learn more about the insect life cycle from Ladybugs.  We hope all our peas live out their life and create new seeds at your house.  Our focus now on Ladybugs is on anatomy, because our live bugs are coming soon!  Students will make observations of their live Ladybugs using appropriate language for their anatomy at the end of the week.

In math we will study more about time and finish up our chapter on ways to use time.  We will compare and contrast analog and digital clocks, learning to tell time by the hour.

We are learning to state and defend our opinions in reading, and then write them down.  It is a good time to also learn how to respect other's opinions when they are different than our own.  We are reading texts about plants and applying our knowledge from science on plant life cycles.  As we write for comprehension, we practice using words from a question in our answer.  We will also work on the fundamentals of identifying and reading long vowel words at practice time.

At story time for the next month or so we will be reading the 2018-19 Washington Children's Choice Award nominee books.  It's an exciting time to explore great new literature.  Once we're finished, students will get to vote on their favorite book.

It's really fun to be in our third trimester and watching how well our class is doing.  We are becoming confident, independent workers...looking like first graders!!
