Come in from the snow!

Wow!  Last week was full of surprises with all the snow and school cancellations.  We were so happy to be back in the classroom with students today.  Staying at home even gets old for adults!

I'm happy to say everyone was on point and we had an excellent day of smiles and learning.  At Bible time we finished the story of Jesus teaching at the temple as a boy.  We will move on to learning how Jesus began His ministry on earth and called His disciples.  Our focus will be on understanding Jesus' work and teaching before the cross and to seek to be better disciples ourselves.

In reading we are finishing up Unit 4 with a study on expository texts and music.  Today we answered questions using information from our text.  Soon students will be assessed in writing by writing their own question and answer.  Our focus is on content, sentence structure and neat handwriting. Writing is a challenging task for a five or six year old, because they need to apply numerous skills.  We are so proud of the progress everyone is making in our class.

This week in math we will study numbers from 20-30.  Students will accurately count, write, compare and order these numbers.  Everyone is getting more and more comfortable with using larger numbers.

It was exciting to review the plant life cycle and then prepare our own pea seeds for germination.  In the months to come we will be growing peas and discovering their rate of growth, essential needs and observing their changing anatomy.  Soon we will explore another biological system as we begin a unit on Ladybugs!  Our class loves science and it's especially fun to study the cycle of natural systems.

This time of year is an exciting time.  Our class is starting to gain confidence and work independently.  We are starting to become first graders.

It's a true blessing to watch your kids grow!
