The Order of Sounds

We have practiced a lot identifying beginning sounds in words, now we'll move on to listening for and identifying middle and ending sounds.  We practiced rhyming words today, noting how they have the same middle and ending sounds, but different beginning sounds!  Listening for sound order is important as we learn to write words.

Our class is working hard at learning all their songs for the Christmas program.  We fit in an extra little practice whenever we have time.

The Bible story for this week is about Jesus' cousin, John and how he joined Zachariah and Elizabeth in their old age.  The advent season is a wonderful time of the year.  We hope you teach the stories of Jesus' birth in your home as your prepare for Christmas.

In math we began a chapter on constructing and reading graphs.  We discussed how everyone uses graphs of one kind or another.  In this chapter we will be organizing data onto several different types of graphs.

After a lesson on capitalizing the beginning letter in proper names we practiced writing both our first and last names in the afternoon.  The class is off to a great start in meeting this Kindergarten standard.

At story time we listened for rhyming words from a funny text about an old lady who bought crazy things at the market.

In learning centers we stamped sight words, constructed, played a rhyming game and colored beautiful Christmas trees for our window.

We all are excited for December to come!
