Learning to improve our writing

After our students take an important writing assessment we take the time to meet with each one individually and give them praise and input about their writing.  We hope to encourage open ended learning where students always understand how to improve.  Today we met to discuss their opinion pieces from last Friday.
This morning we began a writing project where students document their Kindergarten year by seasons.  We are learning to reread our words and ask ourselves if each one makes sense or if there a need for correction.  In math we finished counting and writing to 100 to increase our fluency for two digit numbers.  Soon we will use those skills to measure and record, combining math and science beautifully.
In science we reviewed the ladybug life cycle and observed photos of many different kinds of ladybugs.  Students discovered they all aren't red and black!
Play practice is going great, soon we will practice with microphones and props!
At story time the class identified action words from a funny poem.
We practiced math skills at the end of the day on our iPads and OSMOs.

Happy Monday,

Mrs. Luoma
