A math sentence can tell a story.

As we work on addition, we are learning about word problems and how stories can contain a math problem.  We are using sketches to help us recall details in story and then we write a math sentence that illustrates the story.  The wheels in the brains are turning as we discover more and more connections between subjects.
We finished the Bible story of Jesus choosing the twelve disciples and prayed to be a friend and follower of Jesus, too.
In reading we created a sentence using 'y' words where the 'y' acts like a second vowel.  We're finding 'y' is a very, versatile letter!
Our 8th grade friends came to visit and helped us sort and add words to our vowel posters.
At story time, we heard a funny story about a loose tooth and talked about descriptive words.
We had fun learning about Piet Mondrian in art and created pictures using bold, primary colors using his style.  The class discussed their opinions on how his art makes them feels; it was interesting how many different feelings art can inspire.
We ended a great week of learning by practicing vowel sounds in a game, making math sentences from funny stories, building with dominos and creating pictures with paper.
Go Kindergarten!
