When our 8th grade friends met with us today, it was a joy to see our class reading to their older friends. Some need a little help, but all were proud to show their mentors what they've been learning. It's great fun to help launch our class into independent reading. Share in that fun by reading often with your child and let them read to you.
At Bible time we finished the story of Gideon. He has taught us about being brave and trusting God; we prayed to be just like him. Next week we are excited to light the second advent candle and learn more about the Christmas story.
In reading we took a sight word quiz and then studied vocabulary and wrote sentences. We are learning to answer questions and use good sentence structure as we write.
The class counted carefully and practiced the strategy of looking for a number pattern with data.
In science we learned how we will use our graphing skills to organize temperature data in the next few weeks. This will help us understand more about the weather and how the sun affects the earth's temperature.
We drew line drawings of a Christmas tree in the woods and painted them for our wall.
In learning centers we counted, decorated candy canes, wrote Christmas cards and built with Legos.
It was a good week of working hard to learn and play.
