Our sense of touch

We moved into our new science unit on the five senses today, and studied the sense of touch.  Our nerves were firing and sending messages to our brains as we explored mystery items with only our hands and not our eyes at center time.  This morning we began a new Bible story on Jesus teaching by the sea.  We heard a story about dogs at story time and made predictions.  In math we practiced strategies for careful counting on from ten.  After lunch we defined our new character word that our new table teams are competing on:  initiative.  In our new seating arrangement we will work on doing the right thing without needing to be asked.  Our class begins an important new reading unit this month on vowel sounds where we compare short vowel sounds to long vowel sounds.  This week we will practice identifying vowels and then study each one in depth.  In science we learned how the nerves under our skin give us the sense of touch.  At center time we worked on the ipads, made ten frames, built a zoo and touched and described things we could not see.
It was a busy Monday and we waded into new streams of learning!
