We haven't been in class very long, but already we've come a long way! Everyone is coming in independently and learning how to organize and manage their materials each morning. We're practicing the great habits of order, cleanliness and calm transitions. Mrs. Collins and I are so proud of the steady progress we're seeing each day.
In Bible this week, our class will learn more about each day of God's creation. We will discuss how God always has a good plan and it's the same way today.
In reading we will have our first writing and phonics quiz over letters Ff, Ee, Dd and Pp. We'll go on to practice writing Bb and Rr, along with their sounds. Help your child practice each letter and sound as we cover them at school. We will start a reading skill assessment. At story time, our class will review the parts of a book and concepts of print. We will go on to define and study the characters and setting in a story.
We'll take our first math test over the concepts of group to 5. Counting to five should be an easy review, the challenging part is learning to show what we know on paper. This takes careful listening skills and good follow through.
Library and technology will be in our classroom this week. The BLS library opens next week! Meanwhile, students are learning how to use our classroom library properly. On our iPads, students will practice careful letter writing using a stylus.
In art, we'll finish up our Winslow Homer seascapes by adding a small boat near the horizon line. Then we will study the book, "The Dot" and learn more about how we can be proud of our own art. Students will draw and paint 'dot' pictures to display in our room.
Students will suggest specific rules for us to follow in our classroom. We will role play and take photos to add to our rules poster.
At center time, we play, socialize and learn through the play. We're beginning teacher led academic games with leveled groups. The kids have so much fun playing, they don't realize it's also quality practice.
It's so much fun to spend the day with your kids, thank you for trusting us with your precious ones.
Mrs. Luoma
