This will be an exciting week with the first day of school coming up on Tuesday! I hope you'll join me in prayer asking God to give each student a happy start, and that we all settle into new routines quickly. I am praying that each family makes a smooth transition as school begins. Let's be thankful for the good things and be patient with the challenges together.
Our first day will go by before you blink! We start the year off with praise and worship in an all-school chapel service. Once back in the classroom, we'll begin teaching all the details of how to work together as a class. Students will learn, practice and review how to handle materials, transitions, and how to manage all their needs at school. This process will take some time, but is well worth the investment. After some purposeful play time, snack, recess and a story the day will be over!
Wednesday through Friday are our first full days at school. We will do brief daily devotions to start each morning and teach the class how we learn about God and pray in the classroom. Next week, we start off with the very first Old Testament Bible story: the Creation.
In writing, we will be doing some tracing practice and move on to writing our first letters F and E. Our writing practice is done in a book that stays in our desks, but phonics practice will some home each day.
We will begin keeping track of the date and the days of school at the beginning of each math class. Students will take a math inventory test that will show us the level of each student and inform our teaching as we begin the year.
Mr. Aagard will have our class for their first PE class on Thursday and Mr. Reyes will be down to teach introductory Spanish lessons on Wednesday and Friday.
We kick off our music class with carefully listening to some famous pieces and discussing how the music was made.
Our first art lesson will be on the concept of using line as an artform. Students will follow step by step directions to make a line drawing of a turtle.
We will have a focused story time each day, teaching the concepts of print and parts of a book.
And we will move, dance, snack, eat, rest and PLAY a lot! The end of the day will be devoted to learning positive social skills through play.
Students will come home tired, but will adjust quickly as you work toward an early bedtime.
Mrs. Collins and I are excited, happy, and a little nervous to begin...we'll be using the Jitter Glitter on the 30th and we know God will help us have a great beginning. We hope the same for you!
Mrs. Luoma
